Scan tool OBDI
Define "reasonable amount of money". The cheapest scanners I've ever seen were about $50 with the most expensive in the $1000'*.
I have one for my '95 that is pc based and cost around $350. I got it from OBD2.com
Unfortunaetly you have a 94 (first year you cound use a wire and jumper the OBD1 connection to get the codes) so there won't be a cheap and easy way to scan. Are you just looking to check a SES light or something more indepth for troubleshooting?

Check out the Actrons on Ebay. But most of them come with the 12 pin cable. You'll need the GM cartridge and 16 pin cable, but verify your connection. Some of the earlier 94'* may have come with the 12-pin. Count those pins.
Find an Autozone that has the Actron CP9110 and CP9111 on clearance. It will be if they have any left on the shelf.
Then order the CP9115 cable from www.actron.com
Or just order all three from www.actron.com
