Same starter?: 93 L27 vs L67

Same starter?: 93 L27 vs L67
My starter solenoid in the 93 is on the fritz. It drops out during cranking or fails to engage the starter at all more and more frequently. I have a starter from an L27 parts engine and was wondering if it is the same as the ones found on the L67. I might be mistaken but I thought I once read that they were different due to the one for the L67 was geared or something to that effect.

yeah... it was one of my red car threads. Question on the issue. Does yours starter spin when started, but just not catch, or is this something that isn't even allowing it to spin? I know on the 93 that the starter spins, but doesn't catch all the time, so that part is probably bad, but if there is something prior to that, it might be fine and I might be able to get it. Also, are the 92-93 starters the same?

Are the solenoids servicable as a separate part?
i think that the L67 has a Gear Reduction Starter

Randy they should be servicable to the point that most likely it is full of gunk and stuff and that'* keeping it from operating properly. Next to Dan'* shop (behind lowes in springfield) is a place that services / repairs starters and alternators.
If you need a loaner just grab one of mine, keys are on the rack at the top of the stairs

The starters GM used and what they used them in was really odd at best...
In the Pontiacs the L27'* all used a Direct drive starter, but that same engine in a Buick Park Avenue would have a Gear reduced starter.... It makes no sense....
The L67 you have, if the starter is original will have the Gear Reduced starter.... But if you were to go to the AC Delco wesite, it seems that the Direct drive starters cross over to all SC'd and NON SC'd applications.... So the L27 starter may work for you...
But you may want to do some more research on that issue... Good Luck

I'm going to have to guess and say that that would be a Direct drive starter due to the price as the Gear reduced units are very expensive...
