I have 97 front brake parts on my 90 including spindles, calipers and rotors. During the first test drive after the swap, I noticed a moderate clunking sound that increased in frequency the faster I traveled. I found out the front left wheel (1990) was hitting the caliper (1997). I ended up grinding a small amount of material from the caliper so it wouldn't contact the wheel. The right side has never been a problem.
Perhaps a caliper casting out of specs?
