I have about 6 gal, I think enough for something to happen. I have just called the store and they are ordering another unit for me for tomorrow. My question would be what if the new unit has the same problem....I will probably have to buy it first and return the one that I have in the tank now...but that is fine with me...

Did you verify with the store that the units you're getting are truly for the '92-93? Or is there just one part number listed for all '92-99s?

Drop the tank..and bring the old one with you (After you hook it back up and test it.

Then go get the new one and test before you button it up.

I had to purchase a new fuel sending unit and take the tank down and replace it, to find out that the one I have purchased first was defective.....I let the store have it... This time I tested the unit before i installed it into the tank. It must have been damaged in the transport because I cannot believe that the manufacturer hasn't tested it before packaging it. I suggest everyone changing one of these things testi it before you install it. Thank everybody for their help.

Service parts may not always have been tested before shipping from the manufacturer. Many manufacturers do so, per the original specs and requirements, but I've seen enough while I was in the business to know that some will skip expensive testing on service parts.

Remember that companies are required to provide service part support a minimum of ten years, or that'* what it used to be. I believe it may be 15 years now. That means that a maunfacturer must keep all the part specific equipment for all those years. It means a whole boneyard full of obsolete equipment must be kept to do the occasional service order...at original high-production prices.

Anyway, sorry for your trouble, but glad you got it done and done right.

Aftermarket Quality Control typically only tests a few Random parts in a case; if that. Different parts stores get different quality parts. Manufacturers get their best parts Typically, Napa gets the next, and the parts stores get whats left, according to my friends ex-wife who does this for a living at Diemolding Automotive.

out of sheer curiosity, would you mind disclosing the parts store you made the purchase from and the brand name of your replacement part. I worked in the Aftermarket for quite a while and of all the parts we sold, I had the least confidence in the fuel pumps and related components.

I am in Ontario Canada, and the store was Canadian Tire, the manufacturer was a company from Quebec Canada called "Spectra Premium". I have spoken to them on the phone about the issue and I also wanted to make sure the store ordered the right part to begin with....Initially i thought the store messed up and maybe gave me the wrong part number like for a SSE model...
