Default Gas Gauge... Is it the Sending Unit?
Another quesiton about my moms bonneville.

Here is what my Dad told my about it

It now fluctuates from high to low by as much as a 1/4 tank. It seems to read high after acceleration and low after deceleration. It reacts slowly. It'* not like the neelde flips back and forth. I believe it reads correctly once you stabilize at a given speed.
I did a search and found that the sending unit seems to be problamatic with these cars, but none of the symptoms match this discripton. Does anyone else think that it still could be the sending unit?

Ah yeah, Um.... I think its an 01 SLE???? I'll confirm that with my Dad and get back to you.

Yup, and 01 SLE...


and after talking to my mom it sounds like it is more and more like a sending unit problem.

She said that today the gauge went all the way up to Full when it should have been at 1/4 tank.

my 02 sle is having that problem with less then 100k on it I am just going by miles driven anymore till I get a better pump

Sounds like a sending unit issue to me. Same thing happened to my 99 at around 130K. I replaced the sending unit and haven't had any issues since.

Has anyone Droped the tank and replaced this themselves? I've helped my dad with a suburban and his Chevelle before, but nothing modern. How hard is this?

the 00+ h-bodies have an access panel in the trunk, no need to drop the tank
