Default Refinishing Rims

The clear coat on my rims is pealing and cracking. They are the stock rims and it'* a '93 se. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on either painting them (black mabye?) or refinishing them. Any info on price and how hard this is to do would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I got my Bonnie about a month and a half ago and this site has helped me out big time! Thanks!!!

I have a buddy that sanded his rims down and refinished using sealer and clear coat paint. I forget the steps that he took, but its an inexpensive method if you have the time to do the sanding down. Finding product to do the refinishing is dead easy.

Years ago, there was a product that was used to chemically remove the coating on the rims, but it was so hazardous, its no longer on the market.

For the more expensive route you can take them in and get it done professionally. but that is very spendy.

I'll ask him how much it cost to do the sanding/clearcoat

There are places out there that do this. I've gotten quotes from wheel places at around $45- $65 CDN per wheel to refinish my wheels. I ended up re-doing them myself. Now I'm looking at new rims altogether since that last accident took out two of them & damaged them.

Al,
Took my wheels to a guy in Hamilton called Wheel Wizard and he did a good job on the refinish & clear coat. I started to do them myself but the original clear coat is thick & starts to smear if you use a wire wheel, not easy to get off and can be a lot of work depending on the style of wheel.
