I thought I had a loose wire once so while the car was running I used my thumb to push down on them to make sure they were all the way on. Needless to say when I got to the last wire I found the one with the bad insulation on it...

hey i drove my car today...if i slowly accel then its fine...but if i give it like -5 to -2 boost...around...then it sputters and sounds like a helicopter...is that still a blown coil? whats your opinion ssei95...is that what yours did...it doesnt do it until the boost gets up there...or rpms...????

That could still be a bad coil pack. Until you get any real load on the engine it probably won't show itself too bad. At smaller accelerations the difference between the good coil and the bad will be less noticeable. The more gas you give it the greater the difference from the properly functioning packs and the faulty ones.

There is a chance it could be something else besides the packs but my money is still on them. Either way they are the cheapest feasable fix.

ok then can i use coil packs off any bonneville or does it have to be a 92 ssei?

I know some of the earlier 3800'* had some different style of packs. If I remember right they actually look different too. I believe that any GM twin post style pack (that looks identical) should work just fine. You might even be able to get away with only replacening one of them. Get just on pack and then go thru them one at a time to see if it helps. Chances are only one if them is bad, not all three. Just a matter of finding that one.

Besides, If it was the PCM or any critical sensor or something that went you should be getting SES lights at minimum while driving. Since your not getting them it is probly something simple like coil packs.
