Default PO171 Code?

Anyone else get this code before? I've checked and rechecked everything listed in the factory service manual and can't find anything. After clearing the code, it will sometimes go a week before returning. The long term fuel trim is staying to the lean side of center, but has never caused the light to turn on with my scanner hooked up. Any ideas where to look that I must be missing?

Except the 95 is an OBD-1. I would bet the 97 code may not mean exactly the same thing is wrong. (OBD-2). Wish I had an OBD-2 manual.

I think it is he same. Isn't OBD-1 based on a 2 digit code system (hence the jumpering on the older models to retrieve codes) and OBD-2 supports alpha-numeric codes ( eg: P0123)? 95 was the "getting ready for OBD-2" year for the PCM.

Yep it means the same for OBDll too.
SSEi95 I'm sooo embarrased. I can't believe I missed that thread and it'* just a week old too.
I've sprayed for vacuum leaks, I did find one small line and replaced it, the fuel pressure is right in the middle of the specifications, the PCV is good, the O2 sensor is all over the place on the scanner.
The car runs fine, even when the light is on. I haven't seen any change in mileage either.
My biggest problem other than the annoyance is it will not pass emission inspection this way. I don't mind spending whatever it takes to fix it for this reason, I just want to spend it where it needs to be.

You said you have the factory service manual? I found all my info in there, but it was burried away in some obscure section or something. The factory manual should have complete troubleshhoting procedures to track down this issue. I have just modded mine so much it makes it impossible for me to do it. Besides, Jesse Ventura got rid of emmisions testings here in MN.

If you need help looking up info on this let me know and I can consult my magic books.

I have the factory manuals. I only have the PO171code and no other problems. It runs fine. (doesn't feel lean at all)
I've done everything on the troubleshoot list to the point is says replace the MAF and retest. I'd buy one in a second to fix this if it were more specific, but there are no test or specifications to check just replace and retest. That'* too general for my spending nearly $200.00 unless I can get more assurance from others that it is the next step.
I've searched this all over and I've read everything from get the PCM reflashed to change the fuel filter. I was hoping someone else bonneville specific had seen it and fixed it before I start throwing dollars at it.
