I wouldn't get one at WalMart (not that they make 'em). AutoZones website says they have 'em for 3 bucks...

Default Vacuum at the oil filler cap

This group & the information available is nothing short of amzing!

ron350 wrote about the missing PCV black o-ring causing suction at the oil filler cap with engine at idle; this bit of info really saved my bacon... I had just finished replacing my upper intake (95 Bonne w/ 123k miles) and replaced the PCV as long as I was at it. After the engine finally cranked up and all the white smoke subsided, I noticed it wasn't idling like it had before the repair, so set to investigating. In the process I realized there was quite a vacuum at the oil filler with the cap off, and this sure didn't seem right. Well, being Mr Particular, it worried me all last night while we were out to the movie and this morning I did a search for PCV and vacuum and stumbled onto this thread with ron350'* info. Went out and dug out the old o-ring from that nasty upper plenum and slipped it into the PCV bore, and whammo!! no more suction at the oil filler tube at idle. What a relief, especially after reading the problem with the rear main oil seal getting ruined due to this missing o-ring. (I like working on the Bonne, but NOT that much.)
My wife mentioned an interesting idea... the dealerships really don't want us to be able to work on our own cars; the more complex they can make them the better off they are 'cause the general public will be flocking in with their problems and they can really stick it to 'em. I worked at GM dealerships back in the late 70'* as a flat-rate mechanic; things weren't at the level of complexity as they are now, but it was pretty evident even then what their plan was.
Having said all that, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for a great group.
best regards.....JeffP
