Default PCM Tray

I just wanted to know if a PCM tray is really necessary, of course I want to bolt it down, but do I need something that covers it completely like the little black box it comes in? It doesn't rain frequently, or hard, but it does rain every once in a while. Just curious because I want to make some room for my intake and that box humongous compared to the size of the PCM.

Thanks for such a quick response.

Reason the PCM is bigger: Has to do with handling the super amount of awesomeness inherent in my car, and my driving...also, I'm just cool like that.
Or, I dunno..
