Default Parking and instrument panel lights issue

95 Bonne SE. Pull the headlight **** out one stop and no park/IP lights. Press on the brake pedal and they show up.

After searching posts here it appears it can be 1 of 2 things, either a burnt up headlight switch or problem on the ground buss. Anything else it could be? Everything else works fine, and when I pull the **** all the way out I get all lights and the IP lights up as it should.

I'd check those two first.

Replaced the headlight switch. The harness was slightly melted, but all pins stayed in the harness. I now get parking lamps/IP lights when I pull the **** out one stop. So all good there.

Checked the drivers side ground bus and it'* as clean as the day it was built. Haven't done the pass. side yet.

I still get the IP lights coming on when I press the brake pedal though. Assuming I don't find anything wrong with the pass. side ground buss, what would be next? Bad brake light switch? Seems like every time I press the brakes there is something grounding out and causing the IP to light up.

Figured it out! After taking a close look at the inner brake light socket I noticed that the metal tab that presses against the side of the base of the bulb was loose and not making good contact. Pulled the bulb, bent the contact back out and boom! Brake lights work as they should and the IP no longer lights up until I want it to.
