would their still be a problem with cooling system. My car has only got hot enough once to turn a fan that was in 95 + temp with humditity 80%. Then the air was so the fan was on anyway. I was in stop traffic when it do that, after going 70-75 for about 10hrs

Hopefully problem solved, at least so far so good. Replaced the thermostat and she'* running slightly over 200. Dad checked all components mentioned here (Thanks Guys!) everything looked fine. He also checked the fluid and tested it. It seems that who ever got the car after me didn't keep antifreeze in the radiator cuz the tester showed none. Jeff, being the good son he is, followed me to work this morning to make sure I had no problems. Yay, for now.....

Anyway, Tracey (right?), I thought you said that you had just had the oil changed? It sounded like you got it done at one of those quick lube joints that are supposed to check and top off your fluids. If that'* the case, then how could it have gotten so low?

Caveat: Unless there was no fluid in the rad to begin with and they only added to the overflow tank (normal). Then that might have been the gallon your Dad got when he drained it, I suppose.

Still, I would still be a bit concerned about having a leak somewhere... Your system should not use that much fluid (coolant ) that would empty your system out, unless it were a very long time.

Just one question.
How cold was it out when this happened.
Without a strong enough anti-freeze mix the coolant will gel in the radiator in winter and cause an overheating condition.
You have to remove the block drain plug when flushing to remove additional water in order to get enough anti freeze in. should be 60/40 or even 70/30 in colder climates.

My dad checked the fluid and there was NO anti freeze in it. It was pretty cold yesterday morning and he thinks that maybe the wind from driving 70 mph hitting the radiator helped freeze it up. I don't have a clue. My son just gave me the 1992 SSEi today as a valentin'* present.

I'd agree on the freeze up possibility. And oh boy..the kid is trying to butter you up eh?

That could be it. Had that problem in my Buick years back. Opened the radiator and nothing came out. Fluid had frozen going up a mountain in winter.
