Sorry Will,
Forgot to mention that in my post. I thought he could post in Your Ride and notify us when he updates his progress.

Default Update

Ok, thought I would get a bunch of stuff done Sunday, but ended up getting a foot of snow, so had to go play some and do some digging... Just got around to doing some investigating last night.

What I've found:

1) I believe the SC coupler needs replaced. Unhook the belt and the pulley will turn probably around 1/16 of a turn freeley. The bearings also sound a little noisy in the snout, is some noise normal, or should I be looking to replace the bearings when I do the coupler?

2) Rough idle had gotten worse, and the stuttering is there when I try to accelerate from lower RPM'*. Example, going down the road at 75, OD, converter locked it'* at about 2100 RPM. If I push the gas much, it will stutter, not run right. If I downshift to 3, I can push the gas farther and accelerate, but if I push too far it will stutter more (not as bad). Also, seems like sometimes it wants to "take off", can feel it smooth out and pull hard, then stutter a little more. I pulled a couple of the front plugs, they look new. I need to pull rears, but ran out of time last night.

3) I looked at the throttle body, it WILL be coming off and getting cleaned...pretty grungy, especially past the throttle plate.

Also, WIll, I clicked on your link for the SC oil change, it tells me article doesn't exist. Could you check it and let me know if the link is ok?

Hi Chad,
Seeing as you don't know what has / hasn't been done maintenance wise to the car, did you install those new plugs and ignition wires?
If this doesn't help smooth it out a bit, check the coil packs. You could have a weak one.
You should probably perform a full tune up: Air filter, O2 sensor. These are cheap items, and it will help eliminate some potential problems.

As far as your */c & transmission questions, I'll let the real experts chime in on that. My above statement is merely sharing personal experiences from my '93.

Chad, have you checked the level of oil in that SC? I'm not sure where you're going, but it'* under Mechanical/Engine.

Your stuttering in OD is a classic misfire. Check your coils (in Techinfo), replace your plugs and wires.

TB/MAF cleaning is also in Techinfo.

Thanks Will for responding so quickly. I read the TB/MAF cleaning, planned on doing it last night, but didn't get to it. I'm pretty sure I need to replace the coupler, so I'll do everything at once. I haven't checked the SC oil, I didn't see a plug to check it, but didn't spend a lot of time looking last night.

I've tried both clicking on your hyperlink, and going to mechanical/engine. The hyperlink gives me an "article does not exist" page, and I see 10 articles in mechanical/engine, none of which are about SC oil. I'll also check the coils as the techinfo. Thanks for the good info.
