Here'* a good one for you all. 92 SSEi. Car has to have the accel pedal held to keep car running when cold. After 30-90 sec, will idle normal. Drive it a little bit, then starts getting temperamental, bogging, starts lugging down, then lurches and takes off like a jet! Doesn't do it all the time -- has bad days and good days. Thought that maybe the o2 sensor wire was picking up RFI (radio frequency interference) off of the plug wires (o2 and wires brand new) but that wasn't it. Any guesses? TPS? MAF? Coolany sensor, maybe baro? Mileage -- 23 mpg last week w/ heavy foot.

Use the procedure in Techinfo to extract PCM codes. You don't need a scantool to do this. Let us know what you find.

Default Got ya.

Thanks for the quick response.

I looked up the procedure- it'* the standard "paper clip" on the a-b terminal deal. I had the SES light on since I've owned the car, and came up with a cam sensor fault and a "58" VATS fault. There may be more codes. I will check tomorrow during lunch break and tell you my findings.

The 58 is a known bug in the 92 PCM. Ignore it. The Cam sensor is the reference for ignition timing and injector pulsing. If the code is still current, you have your problem.

An SES light shouldn't be ignored

I have a code 58, which I will ignore

The other code is a 41. According to tech info, that is the cam sensor circuit. I guess the next question is: what does the timing and cam circuit involve? I also get "hiccups" upon acceleration, then outbursts of boost that will snap your head!

I almost think TPS is involved somehow. Would a "41" be triggered by this sensor?
