mysterous ticking from back of motor

Default mysterous ticking from back of motor

i started my car this morning and i noticed a ticking from the engine. i narrowed it down to between the rear valve cover and the upper intake. it seems to be only at idle, i cant hear it when i rev. any ideas on what this might be? input apreciated

lifter would be a big problem and injector would be not too bad, right?

the injectors on the 3.8s all make some kind of noise....

Also possible, (as I was reminded this week on my '95 SLE) is an exhaust leak between the cylinder head and the manifold. Sounds just like a lifter, pretty loud at idle, gets quieter or disappears as you speed up.

Agreed.. the hard part is checking the back manifold for cracks
