Another trick that worked on older cars was to spray a little graphite powder in there and tap around the column lightly with a screwdriver handle or something while wiggling.

Yep yep.. i recommend LUBRICATING it once a year. It'll last forever. Mine eventually failed in the lock position. Tried everything.. once it get stuck, it'* stuck.

DO NOT oil a lock cylinder. Always use dry graphite.powder. The oil will collect dirt and dust that will gum up a lock cylinder in record time. Graphite is the only lubricant suggested by GM for this application.
