well i got curious so i just went out and played with it....the "firm shift into park" method worked...pretty interesting lol

anyway, incase this is a reoccuring prob, what should be replaced?

Try to check the P/N interlock cable like Pat had mentioned...and go from there.....Just sounds like you have some slack in yours. Otherwise maybe you're being toooo nice to the shifter?

The ignition won't lock also if you have the e-brake set. It also won't turn on. You know it'* the shifter cable, when it still kinda moves, and if you are really strong you can still get it to lock. If the ignition cylinder was the problem, it'd be suck. It wouldn't move at all. I had this problem. It got to the point where the ignition wouldn't turn off. lock cylinder failed. Trust me, you'll know when the lock cylinder fails...

You can take the key out when using the emergency brake. The only interlock for 92-99 is the P/N cable.

When mine in my pickup failed I could turn it every which way but to the start position.....at that point being handy with a screwdriver under the hood was a blessing.

my dad did that with his old pick up too...you'd see him outside with a screw driver, a few sparks later and the truck was running

Ya you tend to get really good at it too once you ruin a few screwdrivers on the manifolds and starter lol
