Default MAF screen removal

ok, i got the little sob out, but now if i rev the car, it will stall out. and i'm not sure but i think it might be running a bit on the rich side... anyone know how much a new MAF screen costs??? anyone have any idea why carbon builds up on the back side of the throttle body plate???

I was thinking of taking mine out but heard some have problems, (plus I don't have my intake yet) and I don't want to break it. Did yours break?

cracked and buggered in a few spots (mainly due to the bent coat hanger i shoved in the hole where the MAF was to get it out) but it is still in one piece, i think i'm gonna leave out for a bit and see if it causes any trouble long term... also there is a little ring that holds it in place, that thing was a royal pain in the *** to get out, had to use part of a dish hanger to get it out, but u definately need to gut that air box... that is one restrictive mother...

Yeah, I'll be gutting the airbox until I get the intake. Hopefully I'll notice some performance gain. I tried to take the MAF screen out before and I stopped because it was a PITA.

Its highly recommended you only remove the screen if you have an aftermarket intake. That may be the issue, or maybe something feel back into the TB?

Try some TB cleaner in there for the time being as see how she runs.

First its normal to have some carbon buildup on the back side of the throttle plate... Just needs a little cleaning... Now on the MAF screen, you did make sure not to hit the MAF sensor wright? It sits behind a passage not too far from the MAF screen.... Also did you have the battery disconnected? If you did the PCM might need time to relearn...

I removed my MAF screen about a month or so ago and the results are ok... I seem to have better midrange and high end power... The pedal stompin seems as if it has more authority... LOL... But I don't seem to have any real idle issues... And no stalling either...
i took out the maf sensor for the cleaning, nope i didnt have the battery disconnected, and it only stalled when i revved it. on a side note, i think it sounds much meaner with the screen out, and thats never a bad thing...

I now want an exahust system for the 95 bonneville... But the 91 will be first...

Boat, disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes and the reconnect and let the PCM relearn, it will take about 100 miles or so before the car will act wright... And yeah the car is stronger without that screen... I just tried it to see what would happen on my own car... Now I want more...
yea... did u find a house??? (my mother said I couldn't gut it... but she didnt say anything about someone else gutting it ) so, if u found that house, can we have a little get together?
