So I tried the MAF Screen removal just to test for kicks. I have the stock airbox w/K&N and no silencer. Removed the screen, idled like crap for the first 15 minutes. But since then it has been absolutely fine! No problems at all. Just wanted to share my "freak" story as apparently it shouldn't be doing this well w/ stock air box and "accordian" tube.

Your PCM 'learned' the new MAF readings. Unfortunately, with the less laminar or more turbulent air, it'* reading LESS air density and leaning out your mixture. If you gained any power, it wasn't as much as it could be. With a 'straight through' intake like the ADTR, smooth walled, the air is laminar without the screen. You'll read accurately, and it won't lean out on you.

To clarify: You may have gained, but you didn't gain all you could. These damn PCM'* are sneaky. I think they're female.

Yea...I know what you mean...those PCMs only do something when there'* something in it for them, like only turning over when there'* the promise of getting dipped, and then sometimes they won't even start up unless you are cranking the hell out of it and pushing and encouraging it all along..
