I have a 1995 pontiac bonneville ssei.my chek engine light is on.i bought a scanner that will read obd1 an obd2 codes.but when i plug it in i get a link error my scanner is a innova 3120 it just wont read i get link error, what to do please help thanks
I have a scan tool that does not read one of my cars (05 equinox), but reads the others fine, the mfr says that occasionally happens due to software, if it reads fine on other cars, nothing you can do, except buy another scan tool. I also recall around 94 or 95 was a transitional year for obd on gms. you just might not have the right scan tool. I had a 95 trans port that can only be read by dealer equipment.
That vehicle uses the infamous OBD 1.5. Essentially an OBD 2 port with an OBD 1 computer behind it. You need to have a scanner that specifically advertises compatibility with GM OBD 1.5 systems, and I didn't notice this on that scanner that you posted. They are out there, but most of the lower level stuff won't do it. I think on last account, it took at least $120 for a scanner that did what you need.
