Leaking fuel injector seal

That connector has no fuel in it. Disconnect it and look at the injector body itself. Or the O-ring where the injector mates to the fuel rail.

Ok. I disconnected the connector, etc. I could see no obvious signs of leaks so I pressurized the fuel line (ignition switch) and then I could see gas slowly puddling in the connector socket. I'm guessing the pressure is enough to eventually pop out the rubber wire plug. Pretty scary. So I guess the injector body needs replacing. Is this a difficult task?

You have a bad fuel injector. Replace it and possibly the connector as well. Get this from a wrecker and splice in. The injector from a wrecker as well. Get yourself a couple spares.

Hook up with Echo SSEi for good wreckers in your area.

Also, go to the dealer and order a $20 fuel injector o-ring kit and replace all o-rings (12 of them total, two on each injector).

Thanks! I think I have conversed with Echo in the past.

I have one more question though:

I've been reading some old posts on injectors and there is talk of specific injectors for specific cylinders in some cases. Something about the electronics involved. Is this true for a 93 SSE?

No. You use the same fuel injector as every other L27 out there from 92-94. Up to 95 in non-bonneville applications (pontiac transport for example) and some 91'* (Buick/Olds) that came out with them a year earlier than the bonneville.

OK, I've got the fuel rail with the injectors still attached off the engine. Question: once I remove the injector retainer clip at the rail, do the injectors just pull off? There seems to be a fair amount of resistance and I don't want to break anything. Better safe than sorry. Also, what'* the best way to clean the good ones?

Update: I figured out that I just had to pull harder on the injectors once I looked at my new replacement one. They eventually popped out.

I just finished test driving the car after I put it all back together and it seems to run as well as it used to. That'* a good thing I guess. I still think it is a bit lackluster in acceleration but I'll leave that for another day'* project.

One kind of funny thing: I put the car back in the garage after the test drive and was a bit depressed when I smelled a bit of gas again. Turns out I had vented the fuel system by loosening the gas cap and forgot to tighten it! Hee hee!
