First I have to say thanks to Popatim for advising me to start my own topic. I havent been on for a while but have sonme probs I need the powers that be to help me sort. Cyric 78 had a problem with his tranny making a knocking noise. Well I have the same problem. Well it doesn't knock like it used to.... it doesn't move at all unless I shift it to 1st gear but it has reverse. It also slips in first and second gear when accellerating. At highway speeds it'* like nothing is wrong. My estimates for a full rebuile has been between 14 and 28 hundred. Is there a possibility that seafoam might work along with a shift kit for me? Or just fork out the money for the rebuild?

Have you checked the fluid level and condition? For just slip, that could solve or lessen the problem, and the SeaFoam TransTune can clean up varnished parts. The clunking generally indicates one of the hard parts in the transmission or differential is bad, however. Trying a fluid and filter change would be a lot less expensive, and will give you the opportunity to check for any metal shavings, or other nasties, in the tranny pan. Does yours also clunk at idle?

Thanks Archon yes I checked the fluid and it is clear looking not burnt smelling and it does knock at idle. It made the noise for about a month but drove well so I chalked it up a loose torque converter bolts. but then it went away and the slipping and shifting issues started. I've only owned the car 1 1/2 years for for me it'* no question it'* staying around.

I'd be willing to wager that the seals on the input assembly are shot. I can't speak for the clunking, but the slipping and lack of going into gear leads me to believe what I do on the seals. If you want a band aid, when you do the fluid change and the pan ISN'T filled with a pile of aluminum and steel, put a bottle of lucas trans fix in.

Thanks for the insight and I definitely will take that into consideration. As for your name... Thats Thunderbird right? I previously owned a 90 SC and boy do I miss that RWD though comparably stock to stock they're about the same.

What'* the bump for? Have you followed the advice? Do you have more issues? We aren't quite at the mind reading stage yet...we need more input from you.

My first thoughts are .. your trans is on its way down the big highway of life. Maybe look for a JY replacement that has a nice GM Ceritified sticker on it... the pure number of them in my local yards tells me that transmissions from 92-95 were replaced quite a lot.

Good morning Bill. First and foremost Yesterday I added a bottle of Seafoam and it really did eliminate the slippage problem, It goes right into gear with no hesitation. As for the knocking sound ,it hasn't come back but I wouldn't want to drive the car for extended lengths. Planning a fluid change today and possibly a drive to a local trans shop to have the diff diagnosed.I wasn't attempting to have anyone read my mind For I really hadn't tried much, as for the bump I just wanted to bring my topic back up tp the front page
