Default Intake manifold gasket repair questions

Hi guys,

A question on my 95 SSE.

I see oil puddling near the front edge of manifold on one side and coolant on the other side now.Is it is a given that it'* the intake gasket?...

if so,what can I expect to hear the average repair time and cost do do this job at a garage will be?...I'm just trying to get a heads up before bringing it in this week.

Thanks!

Could very well be the lower intake manifold gasket. To do it right, with a new APN upper intake and pipe, a new coolant elbow, and aluminum frame LIM gaskets, figure about $250 in parts and supplies. A good shop might do it for $250-$350 labor, so figure about $600. If you have a shop do it, chances are they will buy the Dorman upper intake that is widely available off-the-shelf, costs about $50 more, and does NOT have a metal heat shield like the APN. Most shops will also use dealer spec'd LIM gaskets with plastic frames (not the best fix). Read about it here: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=38

I would recommend that you print off a copy of the Techinfo article linked above, take it to the shop and explain that you want to supply the parts (APN uim and aluminum LIM gaskets). Don't be surprised if the shop wants more money because they usually make money buying parts wholesale and selling them to you retail as part of the job. They may also not want to guarantee the work if they are not familiar with the parts. Don't be concerned -- APN upper and aluminum frame LIM gaskets are your best bet.
