Hey guys. My dad'* bonne wont start and I think its either the ignition coil or the switch. how do you test the ignition coil? is there a way? and also on his car i dont know where it is located. if somone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

We need to know what year and trim level your car is.

There are 3 ignition coils, one for each cylinder pair. All 3 wouldn't fail at once. Does the car actually turn over and not fire, or not even turn over?

The location is just to the left of the front valve cover when facing the motor in all cases.

Its a 93 sse. It wont even turn over. kinda like the nuteral safty switch wasnt working.

Ok..if the battery is good. Check the starter.

If the motor isn't turning, it isn't the coils.

Try checking for power at the starter when the key is turned to start. If you have power, try smacking the starter with a hammer. No kidding on that.

If you don't have power when the key is turned to start, check your connections.

I was going to tell you about the hammer..but figured he'd hit me with one.

Also..what is the security light doing when you turn on the key?

u might also wanna try doing a neutral start... i had to do that one time in my bonne, it wouldnt start in park, i put it in neutral, and poof it cranked right up, it only did that a couple of times though, but hey, its worth a shot

No joke on the hammer guy, also, listen closely when you turn the key. Do you actually hear like a buildup of charge but no turnover? Thats one of the surest signs the starter is k-put. Get your tire iron or your hammer and thwap the starter motor a couple times.

I know the hammer trick it isnt the starter. the ignition wire has no power. I also tired the nutreal thing as soon as it happened. do you think its the wire or the switch?
