WHEN is it getting up to 240?? Mine hovers right around 200, but in gridlock traffic, "almost" 240 doesn't sound unreasonable...

And flushing the system takes more than just draining and refilling. If it really is gunked up, you need to wash the guts out also. WallyWOrld sells a kit, made by prestone, for doing this. Used it on an old pickup and it worked great.

The gridlock of traffic is when i noticed the needle going over that far. i was like thinking about the trhead when gameover and billpost was saying if you dont burp the system, it will cause you problems in the longrun and i thought that was the beginning of it. I did burp the system but a week later.

The temp is gonna go up if you're just sitting in traffic. "Almost" 240 may be a bit high, but you're best clue (in my opinion) is where the temps sits when you're cruising....

Does the coolant have a foul odour? If it were Glycol we were talking about, was it bright green [just a note to other readers]. I'm not 100% sure about dex, but I think when it'* old it smells bad.. I KNOW that is true for glycol, smells just like cat ****. Like straight 5-year-old cat ****. You'll know when that coolant is gone.

Flushing does take more time, but I would never mess with my cooling system without doing that. You don't NEED a kit to do it.. but I hear it makes it easier. I can do without, but I am poor, and can take a lot of frustration.

Even your water pump may be failing. Your best bet is to get your entire cooling system professionally checked.
