You do that a little differently.I've pushed back and up...you'll hear it pop loose. Install is push back and down. Do this where the middle of each front seat would be. Also...most use their knee.

yeah... Bill'* method is a little easier. I find bracing against the front seats and then using your knee, or both hands to push back and up works the best.
To remove the back of the seats, remove 2 nuts that hold the seatbelts in the center, which are 15mm-19mm I think, somewhere in there. And then there are 2 flimzy nuts that are larger on either side by the seat belts that get removed. These can sometimes be hand turned, or an adjustable works fine.
