No, it was definitely the HB, believe me, it was ridiculous. It makes a God-aful clattering noise when idling.

And my wheel bearing is fine actually, or at least not the cause of the squealing. My brake pads are worn all the way to the metal guide, which is causing the squealing. The passenger side is worse. I noticed when I removed the HB.

The picture really doesn't look like the same balancer to me. There'* a grand canyon around his HB..it'* nuts.

What wheel bearing...all I could hear when he got to my place was the balancer...lol

How long has this been happening? Because you'll want to change it asap, though the car is still driveable in that situation for quite some time. I had mine go before I had to make a 300 mile trip. I made the trip fine (with the best gas mileage to date actually) and drove to work 3 days/270 miles.

If you are not sure, just pop the right front wheel off, remove the plastic splash guard, and you will see the rubber cracking on the pulley.

Oh I am sure thats what it is, I just did plugs wires and coils yesterday and the sound got better (not running on cylinders 1 and 4) but it is there at idle a little, you can really hear it when its in gear......

and the saga continues.......Bill and Pete are driving to Pete'* house that is 45 min away to get the old balancer to reinstall it on Pete'* car.....NOONE can get a Balancer for the L67....its a 2-3 day wait for it....and to top it off Bills Silverado (which he was driving cause Pete has the 97 SSEi) has a dying Fuel Pump and is basically dead.....

what a fiasco this is

It seems like not only do I have new problems with this car every time I fix something else, but the new issues or repairs get to be a much bigger pain in the *** than they should be!

We went through 3 parts orders for a harmonic balancer. This last one did have the double belt. I found through a source that 93-95 were the same. This one cross referenced a 95. My source was obviously retarded. We installed the new HB and right away it did not feel right. It was not smooth, and the engine was lightly shaking after I popped the hood to look.

Long story longer, we go back to Advance for the 4th time, call Pat to get some PNs, find one last PN that SHOULD BE IT.

As Pat said, we drove all the way to my house and back to get the old beat-up HB (which I should have brought with me) since re-installing that one was better than the new incorrect one.

3 days after the job should have been done, and a week after the problem started, I'm back at square one. By Thursday I should have the correct part. Within 10 minutes it will be installed, and then I'll await my next surprise repair and start the circle over again.
