A bad balancer with a torn dampener cannot cause the rings to hit the sensor. At least not in my book. And it doesn't cause any noticable vibration that can be 'felt' in any way. The rings are firmly attached to the inner hub.

Ahhh, I thought when you said there were scraping noises that the rings were touching the sensor. In reality is was merely the sound of the bad balancer with the rubber breaking down.

Scraping noises? Never heard any nor spoke of them. It'* a rattle/clang kinda noise as the inner and outer hub hard stops hit each other at idle. The noise goes away under accelleration.
