if nothing is wrong with the cam sensor, do not replace it. It is not located behind the harmonic balancer and can be changed at any time if it goes bad.

Changing with the balancer off will make the job easier however.


But I agree, it can be changed at any time and I've changed one twice without messing with the balancer.

No need to remove the balancer for cam sensor unless you enjoy doing extra work for no reason. Personally...I'd head to the gym in that case.

The red arrow is the cam sensor

Bill..... I was told the same thing as Hans..... that if you're doing the crank sensor, to go ahead and get the cam at the same time. I guess I should have asked "Why?", but the guy that did my crank sensor didnt charge me any labor for swapping the cam sensor.... just the price of the part.

That'* because it takes all of 1 second to remove the sensor and put the new one in...

Honestly.. if you are doing it from below.. it'* a smidge easier..but irrelevant unless you want to change a perfectly good sensor that could be fine for 300,000 miles or more.
