With the amount of trouble I had taking off the old exhaust clamps, this is what I was planning on having to do.

The current tank is leaking, and the sender isn't "sending" well, we have low fuel pressure happening at the engine.

Just helped neighbor replace pump on his 97 MonteCarlo. The tank straps were in great shape. The bolts showed no corrosion other than a light aluminum oxide like powder coating. His tank was nearly empty but three of us used jack stands as supports under the tank as he took apart the connections to the pump and the two rubber tubes from the filler nozzle.

Getting the empty back up and slid onto the rubber filler tubes was hard. Then the tank just snuggled right into the position for it and the straps went back on easily. This was on jackstands in driveway just as poster above described.

There was a comment about a special tool to release the connectors--I wasn't there when they did that part.

Tank strap bolts seem to be a hit or miss. Overall..you could return them as long as they aren't a special order locally.

Special tool shouldn't be required for the connections at the fuel lines. They are standard quick connects.
