Yes, you probably have to buy the kit from Dorman. You may be able to get a fuel-line repair connector just by itself from your local autoparts store, but if not, you should buy the kit.

And yes, it will be hard to get the connector into the existing line as it has hardened up, but it can be done, as mentioned above.
