The whole thing comes as an assembly, so you can't take the bearing apart. It is pretty easy. Do you have access to a service manual?

You have to take the wheel off, then the brakes, then the drive axle nut, and the bolts holding the bearing on... Not necessarily in that order, though.

My 92 SE is on stands in the garage now. The manual states to remove the ball joint and the tie rod to change the bearing. I cannot see the need for this. Anyone done this job that can tell me?

No, you don't have to do that. It is as straightforward as it looks. When you screw in the drive axle bolt, and unscrew it you have to hold the rotor in place by sticking a rod through the caliper. Be careful with the drive axle.

The hardest part is getting the bearing off from the rusted frame!

Thanks for the info. I think the rub is: Both the manual and the instructions that came with the hubs recommend changing a seal when you change the hub. I think it is referring to the seal that is inside the steering knuckle. That may necessitate popping the ball joint and removing the tie rod. I am heading into the garage now. Hopefully I'll update later with a successful note!
