In working on my S2 SC I found tensioner pulleys to be reverse thread. All fixed pulleys were regular thread.

Good to know that the idler pulley can be repacked. I didn't know and just bought a new one from a dealership for $35. Should have checked here first and saved a bit by going to a GOOD parts store. I called one place and they said I had to get it at the dealership, D'OH!

The first dealer I went to insisted that I had to buy the whole idler tensioner assembly for $140 and that the pulley wasn't removeable. Fortunately I had just been looking at the car and knew otherwise.

Anyway, I have a good metal one on now, so all'* well...and quiet...

I as well changed mine out. They were plastic and wearing at the structure anyhow.
