Hey All my exhause just broke today :( right at the cadylac (spelling) converter! It looks like it was welded together because teh two pieces fit so close togethre ..but not sure..I purchased some flexie Pipe and it is not fitting like I thought it would..there ia a bracket attached to the pipe right where it broke apart and the flex stuff has a gap in it when it goes over the bracket...not fitting tight...Anyway Has anyone had this happen? and if so is there a way of fixing it or does it have to be welded?


Any help would be appreciated!

I had this happen to me Neongirl; about 4 months ago

My exhaust pipe was welded at the catalytic converter. That weld evantually rusted away and separated resulting in huge grumbling rumbly sounds.

I took it to my nearest exhuast shop. They suggested that I get a new cat converter,it was in rough shape. You may not need one.

What they will do its replace a section of the old rusted pipe. They should use a mig welder (sorry if the term is wrong) and cut the rusted pipe away. They will then take a new section of pipe and weld it to the existing exhaust pipe and cat. Sometimes they bolt it as well.

This is a good time to consider a high flow performance cat converter made of stainless steel. If the budget allows for it

You won't get a performance Cat at Midas. I'd go to an independent shop. You'll do just fine. Most exhaust places know their ****. You shouldn't pay over $150 for a performance cat installed. Prices vary alot, so shop around.

there is a local muffler shop that sell different exhausts etc..I will try there first!
