Excessive underhood noise.
Ok, I knew this was a problem before I bought the car, but there was a lot of underhood noise, mostly a annoying clattering sound. Well this morning I removed both drivebelts and ran it for a few seconds. The sound is still there.
Would anyone say that the sound is most likely the HB? It does go away upon revving/acceleration, and I know it isn't engine noise, as it doesn't sound like engine noise. Anyone?
I'm going to be technical here.
An engine noise should be any noise coming from any part of the engine. Understanding what you mean...(if I'm right) you mean..it'* not an internal engine sound, like a bearing or lifter etc.
Could the noise the be exhaust manifold that is cracked?
Have you visually inspected the face of the balancer?

I had same noise with mine and it was the harmonic balancer. I could tug on the belt and the balancer would move a few inches.Since you have the belt off just see if you can move the balancer by hand. If it'* bad it will move an inch or two. Also the noise will go away at higher rpms which is a clue that is is the hb.
Here is the video, and oddly, it doesn't sound like HB noise. Yes there is a clattering, but that is the SC coupler. But with the belts off, noise is def. present.

I skipped right past the vid...right past the rest.
Pinks... What does the face of the balancer tell you? Is it time to buy one or keep looking for other noises?
Let'* rule out the items one by one instead of guessing at what the noise in the vid is..

I've had my 95 Non supercharged for about 6 months. When started cold it has a sound from the ar cleaner that sounds like the bearings are going out. With the new cold air intake you can really hear it. Once the motor warms up the sound is gone, motor nearly silent.
Is your sound still there after driving awhile? Does it only go away when accelerating or revving?

I'm with Bill, if the face of the HB is torn, replace it. If it'* not torn it'* not going to clatter ridiculously (like mine did). I couldn't hear any HB clattering in that video, nothing even close to what I had anyway. Though it was spinning, I couldn't see anything that looked torn on the HB.
