An engine from a 97+ 4t65 equipped h-body car would be the easiest. Everything else will work but you might have to swap the harness for the earlier years and the rear manifold for earlier ond or different body styles.
Ohh and the 95 engine came with the green coolant which dosen't play nice with yours.
Sounds like a 97 - 05 would be a better choice of engines!
Does anyone know if there are much differences in the harness in these years?
When you say H-BODY cars, what are they and anyway of telling from the engine what they came from?

the 95 is the OBD 1/2 and the 96 and later have the full OBD2

H body cars are the Bonne, Delta 88, and the Lesaber

To make a long story short, its our emission'* controling computer in our or any 96 and newer cars. When the engine light comes on, its detecting a problem with something in the emission'* controls and if its flashing its detecting a misfire...usually.
