Default EGR Valve
What symptoms would occur if my EGR valve was malfunctioning, and how would I go about checking it.

I'm not sure but I think the Gearheads will need more info from you. Is the MIL(check engine) on and are you getting any codes to suggest that your EGR is malfunctioning?
What engine do you have(Naturally Aspirated or Super Charged engine?)
