Thanks, but ya, apparently even the 1994 Series I egr is different from that of the 1988-93.

Well, you guys appear to be right on the vacuum leak. After I put on a new EGR valve I found on ebay, & still had the same rough idle & real gassy exhaust smell, I took it back into the GM shop &, after saying that the smell was from the washer fluid jug, there was the tube completely broken off.

It'* the black tube that runs from the supercharger past the left of the air cleaner (as you're facing it from the front). Anybody know what that is, where it goes from the SC?

Anyway, he slapped a little piece of hose over the break in the tube. I was a little concerned about the fit & whether that was a good seal, but it doesn't seem to rev when I spray carb cleaner around it.

The engine wasn't turning over without pushing down the gas pedal some, & seems like a high-pitched hiss sound coming from somewhere, but I'll monitor the situation. Seems to have gotten rid of the gassy smell & idles better (I think/hope).

Could be the boost controll, or the fuel pressure regulator. Take a picture and post it, that will help.

here're some pics. the top shot shows the 2 thin black tubes. the tube that was broke is the bottom of the 2 - takes a 90 degree right under the other & goes to the little black box. looks like the pressure guage cause from that little black box the hose runs to the dash.

the other pic shows where it was broke & where he spliced on the little piece of hose to try to fix it. do you know what it is that it runs on to by the air filter?

Not sure but I think that'* your vacuum shift modualtor.

I looked again & past the patch job the tube looks like it goes on underneath the air cleaner case & then on under the front compartment of the washer fluid tank. then to who knows?

does the patch job look ok? the hose piece doesn't even go beyond the lip on the tube.

it idles rough still - almost stalling at times until it catches & revs back up.

Check it for a vacuum leak. If no leak then it'* OK. If it'* still rough there may still be a leak some where. Older cars tend to have brittle vacuum hoses.

Yes the hose goes to the shift modulator and also over to the canister under the washer pump. Mine Bonnie idled rough and it was the gasket on top of the SC under the vac block fixed it and smooth idle now. Check to see if that is your problem. Also go to auto zone and buy rubber Vac hoses and start replacing them you will be glad you did. The old hoses dry rot and swell up making bad suction and you need to get them evened out. It works and so far I have replaced 85% with new rubber hose and it made a big difference. Go get them and best of luck. Try to get hose that is the same size you took off if its to big it will not fit right and you will have vac leaks like crazy just don't ask how I know.

thanks guys. seems to be better idle now - maybe got too much carb cleaner on there before, testing it, & it gunked something up. fingers crossed.

think I will get a better piece of tube than that quick patch job he did - not even over the ridges on the tube.

it has a brand new (rebuilt) SC w/ gaskets put on by the GM mech, but wouldn't be suprised if something were screwed up there too.

I'll definitely take the tube replacements into serious consideration.
