Default ECM Replacement on 92 SE

I would appreciate any tips from those who have replaced the ECM (Engine Control Module) aka "the computer" on a 92 SE.

A friend conned me into working on this car, now I'm stuck fixing it....

I have identified the connector from the engine compartment side, so I know where the ECM is located in this car.

Does the dash need to be pulled or can it be accessed from underneath the dash or through the glovebox opening?

For those with experience: how long would it likely take for an experienced (on other vehicles) shadetree mechanic to swap te computer? Any idea of what the flat-rate time is?

Thanks,

Steve

I have a 95 ssei and can tell you how mine is done. Yours is prob similar. You first need to disconnect the negative batt terminal. Then pull the plastic panel under passenger side dash. You will probably need to be upside down with your feet on the headrest and your head on the floor. Have a lil flashlight handy. The ECM is against the firewall held in by manilla colored clips. 2 or 3. Use a flathead to release clips bein careful not to break them the wiggle ECM around until it slides down to the floor. You may have to pull the chip out of the bad one unless you purchaesd a new chip with the new ECM. Installation is reverse of this.
