I'm soo tired of the Dex Cool vs Green info....
How much heat tolerance is a plastic gasket supposed to handle?
I can't say that dex is or isn't the cause of certain problems... But I have seen the Impregnated plastic gaskets fail on the 3800 L, 3800 K, 3100 M, 3100 J, 3400 E... Keep in mind that the3800 K, 3800 L and 3100 M through 95 all came with Green coolant...
I have been using the Dex Cool for just about 7 years now... I had the intake gaskets replaced after I bought the car, it had the green coolant in it.... Afterwards I swapped the thermostat for a 180F, flushed and installed Dex-Cool.... No leaks with the exception of a water pump better than 4 years ago... Showing signs of seeping through the weep hole.... Its about due...
My 91 killed its original Water pump in the low 90,000 mile range, It always had green coolant in it and still does... The weep holes were leaking good...
My 95 killed of its original water pump at 89,000 miles.... Had Green up untill 75,000 or so... Oh it wasn't the seals that died, it was the bearings... Made some nasty noises...lol
I think the largest problem is that air can not be in the system with Dex Cool and it can't be mixed with the Green stuff( Unless noted on the Bottle, Compatible with Dex-Cool )
But if you do want to dump the Dex-Cool, just get a Longlife coolant... I have Prestone longlife in the Mitsubishi( Compatible with Dex )...
I have Prestone Green in the 91( I believe its also Longlife, Don't think its compatible with Dex Tho)
And the Dex in the 95 has been there for a long time... Everything looks like New, Even the Radiator... 139,000 miles and still going...

Runs like a champ now!
I'll get some pics up of those old Bosch plugs. Some of the old wires had charcoaled themselves... pure junk. I think it was a combo of the plugs and wires.
BTW, what'* everyone'* opinion on DEX COOL? Should I replace it with the green stuff?

As a matter of fact, the previous owner had the green stuff in the car. I replaced it with DEX COOL when I put the thermostat in this weekend.
So, what'* the official word here?
