Does anyone know if I should replace the EGR valve gasket and take off the solenoids before I start to clean the EGR with the carb cleaner?

Three torx screws and the solenoids come right off. Scrub the pintles, springs, and housings, oil lightly. I'd use something with teflon in it.
Here a troubleshooting article that DrJay provided me some time ago. It helped a lot and has a bench test that I swear by (even taught my local parts store a thing or two with it):

Well I took off and cleaned my EGR valve , after I put it back on and started the car it is idleing as if it'* skipping. It'* kind of jerking the engine. The boost gage is moving slightly and the rpm'* are moving a little also. DID I SCREW THE THING UP COMPLETLY? I'm also getting a 56 and 58 code after doing the ECM retrieval with the paper clip[/b]

One thing at a time would help, but sometimes that'* not possible. Are those the ONLY codes you have?
58 Is a known bug in the 92 PCM. Ignore it always.
56 indicates a faulty boost control solonoid.
Did you get those codes AFTER clearing them and running?
