Default Coolant Outlet Q'*

I was at Shuck'* the otehr night getting the parts needed to do a coolant swap because I have a replacement puke tank, and the thermostat seems to open a little early. So I get a new thermostat, a rubber gasket to go around the thermostat and the paper gastet for the wateroutlet.

Here'* my question:

What'* with the gasket going aroud the thermostat? My burb does not have this, or my old truck. My Bonnie is the only one so far that I have seen with it. And, will Dex-Cool eat that rubber gasket too?

They were trying to seal the flow of coolant aroud the t stat.

Most newer cars use this design in favor of the old. Actually, it'* possible that you might not need the paper gasket. They stopped using it around 98-99. I'm planning a test when I have time to check and see if the paper is required.

The rubber also tends to insulate the thermostat from the LIM thermally. This way the thermostat is more likely to open based on coolant temperature alone.
