Default column shifter linkage

The shifter on my 99 Eighty Eight is so sloppy its pathatic. I dont know how many others here with a 90'* column shift but Im wondering if this is a trend. I cant believe this car has not had some force or something put on this shifter. At 72,000 miles it makes no sence to me that I have 2 full inches of free travel. It also feels very strange and cheap while going from park into reverse or drive and eventually back into park. Its been in the dealers for over a week now on account of a transmission problem (long story). Of course as usual for a dealers way out of responsibility they are saying "its typical wear for a used car" I traded a 240,000 mile Regal and it didnt have any "typical wear" . They were supposed to look into it between the time I bought it and when I picked it up but it was "only typical wear" then also. I guess I should have been more to the point before I "recieved" the car, instead of taking it back later. I HATE dealers and DEALER mechanics. Its always a game of wits.

Any ideas what this is or if any Bonnevilles have this. Thanks
