iv seen peeps talkin bout' this here, but what are they and what do they do?

Those running forced induction (SC, Turbo, Nitrous) tend to use copper plugs for their colder level of performance over other plugs. NGK makes a good copper plug line called V-Power, but if you got the money go for Denso plugs.

Platinum is for running longer and reliability.
