This problem seems a little strange. I am getting a clunking type sound from the front end why I go over harsh bumps and such. Normally this could be easily diagnosed, but what I find strange is it started IMMEDIATELY after I got my front springs changed. I think and the mechanic said it'* probably just that the strut boots are old and a little loose so they make a strange noise. He said as long as it'* not a harsh metal on metal sound it'* alright. Also just so it is said when we looked and he played with the passenger side boot (which is where the sound dominately comes from) the sound it made was pretty much exactly what I hear in the cabin. This mostly happens passenger side with a lot of strut travel...we could not get it to make the sound by manually bouncing the car while parked. Thanks for any help.
Ok.. lets get this straight.
You had the springs changed, now you got clunk with strut travel.
What springs did you put on the car, if used what were they from?
You don't want my first theory that the springs might be moving around a little..

They were new TRWs from Advance, just like I put on the rear, they seem like good springs. The old springs were very soft btw...the car sank substantially more than it does now even without me in it.

we did a side by side comparison they were the same length. The spring design was a little different but I was told that was because the TRWs were variable rate.

Why would it only show up now, could it be because the front end is much stiffer now? This is not a very loud sound and only happens over harsh potholes, or big bumps, and not always.

It almost sounds like a possibly bad strut mount bearing.... I am on my 2nd replacemet set of struts... And the froonts need to come off to replace the strut mounts... When I do all of this I will do the strut mount bearing and ball joints as well as the springs...
