Default Climate Control unit is problem is SOLVED@@@@@

I don't know if this should be posted here or in another forum......

I just realized that the Climate Control unit is not operating correctly or it is another issue.

Symptoms are:
1. Rocker switch to control flow of air from the system moves like it should and the small LCD screen shows the correct action of the switch movement as it should.

2. No air flow (10%max) coming from the dash vents when selected.

3. Constant flow coming from windshield vents above and from floor vents no matter where the selector switch is set at, including the dash vents.

4. No closing off the fresh outside air, even when the LCD shows I have selected to pull the inside air it still comes from the outside.

Any suggestions???????????????????

Easiest answer is a disconnected vacuum source for the air diverters. The system will default to defrost in the event of vacuum loss and the floor vents are partially open be design. What year is your car?/

Ok...time to get on your back...Your vacuum tank should be located under the front of your passenger front fender....check to see if it'* broken or unhooked. It'* the most likely culprit..beyond something right at our engine being unhooked. Look for old or cracked vacuum line

thanks

As far as the tank goes, I found it and it looks OK, but I need to run a vaccum checker on it to be sure.
As far as the hose to the junction under the cover by the strut tower and cowl, it too looks good.

Where will the purple hose be, under and behind the glove box or behind the controls on the dash.
I am a very big guy so it is not easy for me to twist and jerk my body under there to look.

The black to purple connection is deep behind the glovebox and usually can not be seen without removing the dash. You can see it as it enters the HVAC programmer simply by removing the hush panel under the dash on the passenger'* side.

There is a connection for all of the vacuum lines before they enter the programmer but I've never been able to disconnect the darn thing. It felt like an adhesive was used but there was no evidence of one.

One tip I can give you, especially if you already have a vacuum gauge, is to check it at the connection near the strut tower. This might prevent you from having to crawl under the dash

After trying to get my head under the dash (it wasn't easy) to look around, I couldn't see anything. Good point, at least I can rule out that direction of hoses.

well I got the vacuum checker out and I managed to check the conection near the strut tower and I found one side good and one side would not hold vacuum. I traced the side that didn't hold it to the engine!!!!!
I traced the good side to the vacuum cannister under the fender, once I touched the L-Shape connector and the hard line (looks like 1/8") on the cannister with my BIG FINGERS it snaped in two and I hear a quick hissing sound, so I know the cannister is holding vacuum I think. I get my checker and plug it direrctly onto the cannister and it doesn't hold vacuum, now I am confused.
So far I have broken a hard 1/8" line to the cannister and a L Shape connector to the cannister, can the connector be bought anywhere?
Also, if the vacuum line goes from the motor to the cannister and no where else, what did I miss, there are no lines going into the fire wall that look like a vacuum hose!!!!!!!
And there is only 1 hose to the cannister, only 1 hose, not 2 of them.

You're in luck. I just happen to have a complete 97 wiring harness in my basement. I found a Y connection for the vacuum line a little ways away from the grommet.

Looking at the passenger'* side grommet closer to the fender you'll see two groups of wires. One group has several large gauge red wires. The vacuum line is with the other group and looks more like a large gauge black wire rather than a rubber vacuum line. The Y connector is about 7-8" away from the grommet and you will need to remove a little tape or loom to see it. The connection has a rubber line that goes to the engine source, a nylon line that goes to the vacuum tank and another nylon line that goes to the firewall. This explains only one line connecting to the tank. Check that Y connector.

For the elbows and Y "soft" cnnectors, try the HELP! section at your local auto parts stores. You can usually find an assortment of vacuum connectors.
