Hey guys, I just discovered this site and joined.

My '99 SE makes a cliocking noise when turning, and sometimes going over a bump. The CV boots aren't torn, so I would think the axles would be okay. The car has 138,000 miles. Could the lower ball joints make such a noise? Or the wheel bearings?

If it'* a constant..that would tyipcally be a CV joint and the boot doesn't need to be torn for the joint to be worn out. It'* one of those things you need to hear to be positive about.

Can you record the noise?

No, I don't have a way to record the noise unfortunatley. It'* a clicking that varies with speed, and only happens in right turns, and once in a while over a speed bump it will click lightly once.

i had a similar issue when i made left turns and went over a bump, turned out my left front strut was dead. Try popping the hood and pushing down quickly on each wheel.

Yeah, thanks, I thought of that too and had the front struts replaced a couple days ago, but the noise is still there. It needed news struts anyways after 138k, but they weren't the noise creators. I think it must be the axles or wheel bearings.

The single click is odd. Must be a pressure thing. Clicking is usually not a bearing. Humming would be a normal bearing indicator.

When I had tires put on the car a few months back, the guy at Tire Kingdom said the front bearings seemed a little loose, but he thought it wasn't bad enough then to wory about. So it would probably be good to replace them anyways if they are loose.

I really suspect the clicking is one of the front axles.

I also have another noise, one that comes from under the hood. After the car is started in the morning, I'll hear a slight squealing sound under the hood. It goes away after it'* warmed up. I've also noticed she runs just over 200 degrees at stoplights lately, which is higher than usual for this car. I wonder if the noise and temp indicate that the water pump is on the way out?

I would check the belt, pullies and tensioner before going straight to the waterpump. Also..i'd get another opinion on the bearings and axles before doing them.

Yeah, that'* good advice. I replaced the belt in '06, but the tensioner could be the cause of the sound I suppose.

I love the Bonneville graphic you use. Too bad they didn't make a 2 door Bonneville, it looks pretty good in your graphic! Do you have a business selling speed parts for these cars?
