Check Oil Level warning
For quite a while now, my wife'* '93 SSEi has been chiming and displaying the "check oil level" warning in the driver info center display every time the engine is started. The chime and light occur about 10 seconds after starting the engine, and the light always turns off about 20 seconds after it turns on. The oil level is full.
Last weekend I changed the oil and replaced the oil level sensor in the pan with a ("working") used one that I bought from one of the members of this group who parted-out his '93. The warning still occurs! So then I removed the electrical connector and bent the 3 electrical contacts to make a tight electrical connection. And again the error still occurs just after the engine is started, even when the car is on a level street.
Can anyone tell me how to test the oil level sensor with a multimeter? I searched this board and found that my car isn't the only one whith this bogus "low oil level" warning.
It'* also worth noting that the one that I removed from my '93 SSEi has a clear plastic pointed tip (roughly 2" long) on the oil side of the sensor, and the used one I bought just has a recessed pointed lens on the oil side of the sensor.

My 92 SSEi does this also but im pretty sure its because mine is too full, i did an oil change and when i put the oil in i wasnt paying attention and put about a half a quart in more than necessary and was too lazy to drain it. Might check your oil to see if its too full? Just my 2 cents.

Nope, the oil isn't too full, and as I mentioned, this has been happening for several months. I read that there'* also an "oil level module" under the dash. I'll check that out this weekend; hopefully, it'* just a bad connection to the oil level module. If I need a new oil level module (not the oil level sensor), can anyone tell me the part number?

Certified GM nut
oil level
My 96 SE has been doing this also since I bought it.
There is a very detailed test procedure in the 96 GM book for the 3 wire sensor.
In my opinion I'll just pull out the bulb the first time I have to pull
the gage cluster out for any reason. Other than that its just a nuisance.
I check my oil regularly and know I only use 1/2 Qt. between changes.
If you find this oil level module in the dash let me know, its worth looking into I guess.

Mine has this same problem and I asked my dad if the level being too full would cause the light to go on. He said no and that he replaced the oil level sensors in Bonnevilles all of the time when he worked at a dealership.
