Default CE light, I have the code

The CE light on the '95 came on after a very slightly rough start. All of the gauges read fine for a 10 mile ride back to the driveway.

Scanned it with my Actron and got a P0406...

Linear EGR-Pintle Position-Position error.

No other codes. no misfires.

I only found one other thread on P0406 and he was also having oill pressure problem.

I need to be pointed in the right direction. Is this referring to the EGR body on top of the engine with a sensor or electrical connection? It looks like there are a couple of bolts to remove the body. Is there anything I can do to clean it up and try it before i replace it? I'm guessing If it has a pintle in it, that'* probably something that'* opening and closing for flow?

I'm not much of a wrench and my Chilton'* and FSM are out of town for two days in the trunk of the other car.

Yes..Buy a new gasket (~$2), then you can remove the two 13mm bolts and sneak out the EGR. Turning it upside down..you will see two holes. One is plugged by the pintle valve the other is open. Gently push the pintle in and see if it'* sticky. Then using Carb cleaner or TB cleaner..spray inside the valve liberally...

Keep doing this until the pintle moves freely. Put back on with new gasket and see if that fixes you up.

Thanks. I didn't want to unbolt it, and have a a bunch of small parts spring out with no diagram to reassemble. Sounds like its safe in my hands.

I need her ready for Friday to teach in Harrisburg. and I was hoping to put in some road to do some car shopping out in Pitts and make a guest appearance at the afternoon session at Heinz field on Sat.

Go ahead and unbolt..there'* no little parts beyond the two 13mm nuts.

I should have mentioned.. do this with a cold car. Being exhaust related it gathers heat quickly and stays smoking hot for a long time.
