Default This Car Does Blow...

Ok Here i am with another fun problem... Driving south bound on I95 towards the mall doing about 60 mph... started to increase my speed to 75 mph i was playing with the throttle cuz it felt werid. I would give it alot of gas real quick and it would take like a four seconds to reaspoond and jolt me forward. Then all of sudden Ding Ding the magical sound of ur car dieing on you while moving. The check engine light came on and the low volt also... My car was still moving at a hefty speed sooo i just kept gliding off the nearest exit and pulled over to the side. I stopped and puit it in park and tryed to turn it over. it would turn over but very very slowly like 1 RPM per 30 seconds like something is holding it back and or the battery was weak. I brought it home and went to sleep and im at work now I havent had time to check anything. I need some input and or ideas of what it could be or what i could do to test it.

Check, clean and re-tighten the ends of the battery cables. At the battery itself and on the starter and block. Cheap - easy. Check the ground also on the Ignition Control Module.

I know advance can, autozone probably does as well. But I think they can only do it on the car while it is running. If you have one that is REALLY close buy you could put your battery on a charger and limp it there. While testing they can recharge your battery to get you home.

If this is not an option, look for a "starter and alternator" shop in the area. Many of them can test the alternator off the car.

BTW, I don't see a connection between the topic title and the actual thread...sorta annoying.

AutoZone can test an alternator. I don't put much faith in the testing process at Advane or AutoZone, however.

That said, I would first start off by following Bill'* recommendations. It'* the most logical place to start, plus it'* free. You may surprise yourself.

Turn on the car and disconnect the battery, if the car dies then it is the alt. .

Default batt

You could also put a trickle charger on it for an hr or so and see if it turns over fast.
If not the batt has lost its ability to hold a charge. Some have caps that you can check the water on.
cheap and easy test before you do anything.
I would think that if the alt went the light would come on in the dash. At least all my cars did when it went.
